ABOUT

Founded in 2015 by Po’Chop | Jenn Freeman, the Black Burlesque Directory was created to make it easier to find, book, and celebrate Black performers in burlesque. What began as a personal effort to fill more productions with Black artists has grown into a global resource that documents Black burlesque.

The directory exists to encourage inclusive and intentionally crafted burlesque spaces, ones that reflect the vitality of Black performance across styles, geographies, and generations.

The Black Burlesque Directory acknowledges the complexity of identity, ethnicity, and geography. In this space, Black is used as an umbrella term for those who are Indigenous African or descendants of Indigenous Africans.
